CAAT is introducing additional layers of security to My Pension with a new multifactor authentication (MFA) process. It makes your personal pension information more secure by asking for a unique verification code whenever you sign into your My Pension account. MFA will now always be required to access My Pension services.
To get started, you can choose between the following scenarios that best fit you. Click on the scenario to jump to the instructions:
Steps for first time set up
-
Sign into your My Pension account.
If this is your first time registering for My Pension, complete the email and password setup and then skip to step 3. Watch a video to learn more about activating your account.
-
Input your Member ID, birth date and the last 3 digits of your social insurance number (SIN). Check off that you are not a robot and click ‘continue’.
Note that your Member ID can be found in your annual statement and other correspondence from CAAT. You can also always reach out to our call center team who can help you retrieve your ID.
-
Select either Authenticator app* or phone number. The chosen method is how you will receive your unique code.
The Authenticator app can be installed on your smartphone, tablet or computer. The phone gives you the option of receiving the code either by text or call.
If you select ‘Authenticator app’ - follow the instructions below for next steps. If you select ‘phone’ - you can jump to those instructions below by clicking here.
*Authenticator apps are mobile applications that will generate one-time passcodes that you can use to sign into different accounts. They add an additional layer of security by creating these passcodes that are in addition to your regular username and password.
Authenticator app method instructions
-
After selecting ‘Authenticator’, you will need to use your Authenticator app of choice to scan the QR code on screen or input the ‘App Secret Key’ shown on screen into the app.
My Pension supports the following authenticator options:
-
Mobile devices: Download the Authenticator app from Google Play Store (Android) or App Store (Apple iOS)
-
Web browser: Add the Authenticator extension to Firefox, Chrome or Edge
Authenticator.cc
- Once the account is added (it should appear as “CAAT PRD Portal”), click continue
- From this screen you can input the MFA code you see on your app for the CAAT PRD Portal. Then click continue once more
- Congrats! You have successfully set up multi-factor authentication with the app.
Phone method instructions
Please be aware that as of right now phone-based MFA communication only accepts +1 country codes, i.e. North America. If you live in an area that does not use this code, please follow authenticator app instructions instead.
-
After selecting ‘Phone’, you will be prompted to choose an area code from the dropdown and provide your phone number
-
Select either the ‘Send code’ button to receive a text, or the ‘Call me’ button to receive verbal instructions
-
If you chose to receive a text, you will now be asked to input the code you just received via your preferred method
If you did not receive a code, you can click the link to send a new one
-
Congrats! You have successfully set up multi-factor authentication with your phone.
Lost access to my MFA device
If you no longer have access to the device you used for MFA, you can reset your MFA from the My Pension login screen.
- Attempt to log in to My Pension with your email and password
- When prompted for your MFA code, click the ‘Reset MFA’ link underneath the field. You will need your Member ID, date of birth, and the last 3 digits of your SIN.
Updating my MFA settings
You can update your MFA settings if you have another device you would like to use for verification, to switch apps, or to change your phone number. Updating your MFA settings can be done from within My Pension. We will walk you through how you can do this below:
- Login into My Pension as you would normally
- Navigate to the 'Your communication preferences’ screen by hovering over your profile name at the top right of the screen and selecting ‘Your preferences’
- Click on the 'Reset MFA' button to begin the reset process. This will log you out of My Pension.
