OPSEU members
You are working and you receive a retroactive pay increase
- Your pension will increase based on your revised contributions and earnings after you receive the retroactive pay increase.
- The change will be reflected on your next annual statement (including, for DBprime members, the revised Highest Average Pensionable Earnings for the years the retroactive increase applies to) and on My Pension, CAAT’s member portal.
NOTE: This also applies to you if you are in your extension of membership period, or you have a deferred pension.
You are collecting your pension and you receive a retroactive pay increase
- Your pension will be recalculated based on your revised earnings and contributions, after you receive the retroactive pay increase.
- Your recalculated pension amount applies from the date you started to collect your pension, so you will also get a one-time lump sum payment to reconcile the total difference between your new pension amount and the pension that was calculated when you retired.
- It includes inflation protection increases if applicable.
- Income tax will be deducted from the lump sum payment.
When will you get your recalculated pension?
Your pension will be recalculated after the retroactive pay increase (minus applicable CAAT contributions) has been made to you by your former employer.
These are the dates we are targeting for updated pension payments:
Faculty (CAAT-A)
- Retroactive pay increases were made by employers in September 2023.
- Your lump sum payment from CAAT will be made by November 30, 2023.
- Your recalculated pension will apply starting with the December 1, 2023 payment.
Full-time Support (CAAT-S)
- Retroactive pay increases are expected to be made by employers in November 2023.
- Your lump sum payment from CAAT will be made by January 31, 2024.
- Your recalculated pension will apply starting with the February 1, 2024 payment.
CAAT Pension Plan will notify you of the new monthly amount and the lump sum amount on My Pension, the member portal. If you have not activated your My Pension account, you will receive a letter in the mail.
Activate your My Pension account to get information sooner
You don’t have to take any action, but we recommend you activate your account on My Pension, CAAT’s member portal, to ensure you get information as soon as it is available, without having to wait for the mail.
- Go to the Login page (Log in | CAAT Pension) to get started. You’ll need your Member ID.
- We’re adding resources to My Pension designed especially for retired members that can make it easier for you to manage your pension payments. Watch for more information later this fall.
